Numbering every characteristic on a print and transcribing it into an inspection form is slow, error-prone, and has to be done again every time the drawing revs. Most of that's mechanical. Most of it can come off your plate. The verification can't, and in inspection that's not a small point.
If you're in quality, this is probably the first job you'd hand off. A print arrives, somebody balloons it, numbering every dimension, tolerance, note and finish callout in order. Then every one of those characteristics gets typed into a form, with its nominal, its tolerance and its actual. On a busy print that's most of a day. Then the drawing revs and you do it again.
The work is necessary. Your customer requires it, and on aerospace work the standard is explicit about it. But the necessary part is the verification, and almost none of the afternoon goes to verification. It goes to numbering, transcribing and formatting.
On aerospace work the AS9102 framework structures this into part accountability, the material and process certifications, and the characteristic accountability that ties every ballooned number to a result. Outside aerospace, customers ask for the same three things even when the form doesn't have a name.

I would rather lose the sale than be vague here, because this is a regulated activity and the consequences of getting it wrong aren't commercial.
The verification stays with your inspector. Always. Extraction from a drawing is very good and it isn't perfect. A dimension can be ambiguous, a note can be worded unusually, a scanned print can be poor. So the correct design is one where every extracted characteristic is presented to a person to confirm, and the system tells you plainly what it was unsure about instead of quietly guessing. You're buying your way out of the typing, not out of the check.
Anything sold to you as a hands-off first article should worry you. Your name is on the form, your customer is relying on it, and an auditor will ask who verified it. The honest version of this tool makes that person faster and gives them something better to review. It doesn't replace them, and a vendor who implies otherwise hasn't thought about who carries the risk.

Where a print is genuinely poor, the right behavior is to say so and let a person handle it rather than to guess, and that's how it should be set up.

Honestly, probably not, and I would tell you that on the call. This earns its keep where prints are complex, revisions are frequent, or the volume of characteristics is high enough that the transcription is a real recurring cost. A handful a year is a manageable afternoon.
